In September 2020, Relationships Education and Health Education become statutory in all primary schools in England. This new subject will build on the non-statutory lessons we have previously taught in RSE (Relationships and Sex Education).

RSE is the lifelong learning about physical, moral & emotional development. It is the understanding of the importance of marriage for family life, stable & loving relationships, respect, love & care. It is also about the teaching of conception within the context of a loving relationship.

As a Church of England school, our mission is to support the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all of our pupils, rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Church. The Church teaches us that this is very much a partnership with parents, in which parents are the ‘first educators’ of their children on these matters.

At Hope Hamilton, we have chosen to follow the PSHE association programme of study, alongside the scheme Love and Sex Matters. The Love and Sex Matters material offers a path to deliver the recommendations from DfE within a framework of Christian values. The emphasis in these materials is on creating dialogue through activities that will help children and young people grow in emotional articulacy and develop the self-esteem to navigate a personal life that honours themselves and others.
