Eco-Schools
🌟 Our Foundation Stage children have been busy! In the summer term, they completed a charity fun run, raising money to brighten up our outdoor play area. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our families, we now have a beautiful border full of plants.
The children loved every moment from fundraising, digging, planting and watering; we can’t wait to see everything blooming over the next few weeks.
A huge thank you to Coles Nurseries, Thurnby, for kindly donating six large bags of compost and plant food to support our project. We’re so grateful.

O
n a cold, wet and windy day, Mrs Smissen's Foundation stage class, braved the weather and planted 13 native trees around all school grounds. We can't wait to watch them blossom this Springtime! With thanks to The Sustainable Schools team at Leicester City Council.

We achieved our fourth successive year of the Green Flag award for 2025 from eco-schools! Well done to our eco-committee of 26 dedicated children, who have worked hard to achieve this.
This year we will be combining the eco award with our own school climate action plan; our focus for this year is 'Let's Go Zero' environment campaign.
To reduce our carbon footprint, we strive to provide 3 uniform swaps a year. This is offered termly, where we encourage families to donate outgrown uniforms to give away to other children.
Over the last 12 months, we have focussed on saving water through a couple of initiatives at home and in school, including the 'shower power' and 'Turn off the Tap' where the eco club designed posters to be displayed in the Foundation stage toilets to encourage the children to stop wasting water.

We marked our first 'Clean air day' in June where each class was encouraged to have a paper and power free afternoon. The teachers were really creative, and it was wonderful to see so many classes enjoying our outdoor space with the parachute, art and PE activities.
Look out for this year's 'Cut your Carbon' month in November. Useful tips and challenges will be posted on Facebook each week.
Week 1: 'Drop it like it's hot' (turn your thermostat down by one degree for a week.
Week 2: 'Veggie Vibes'
Week 3: 'Ditch the Drive'
Week 4: 'Device Free' (for a day)
Week 5: Toy Swap
