World Book Day and Encouraging Reading

You will find a reading list for each year group on the Learning / Reading List page. Use this for inspiration for your child to dress up on World Book Day.

This year is World Book Day’s 20th anniversary and we are planning a huge celebration. This will take place next half-term on Thursday 2nd March.

As part of this celebration, we will be running a school-wide competition linked to your children’s class reading lists.

The rules for the competition are as follows:

- Your child must create a home-made costume to wear on World Book Day. This costume must be based on their favourite character from their year’s school reading list (you can find the list attached to this letter.) For costume ideas, you can also visit:
http://www.bookaid.org/support-us/world-book-day/world-book-day-dress-up/

- Your child must then create a presentation on why they have chosen this character.
For Foundation and Year 1/2, this could be a drawing or poster with some key words or notes.
For Key Stage 2, this should be a piece of writing, giving examples from the text and could also include illustrations.

- The deadline for presentation entries to be handed in is Monday 27th February.

I will then be judging these entries and will choose a winner from each phase.

Each winner will then get to come and meet me and order a pack of age-appropriate books of their choice.
