You will find links below to homework that has been set for children.

Please follow the appropriate link for your child's work.

Ideas for things to do when there's nothing to do . . .

 

 

Visit the library

Redesign your bedroom. Draw a floor plan, label it and add a colour scheme. If you really want to challenge yourself, draw it to scale!

Plan the family's TV viewing using the Radio Times - great practice for telling the time, working out time intervals, analogue and digital clocks

Write a diary of what you've done at home and include times

Read - a great opportunity to catch up on readingsomething you really enjoy

Go shopping - estimate totals and work out the change

Do some research for your class topic to bring into school to share

Cookery - bake a cake or make lunch. A great way to practice weighing and measuring as well as reading and following recipes

Play some board games. A great way to learn to count, solve problems and play together.

Visit a museum. Newark Houses has a lovely exhibiton of old fashioned toys that will help you with your topic, as well as some fascinating galleries which let you step back in time.

Design and make a moving toy.

Get outside. Go to the park and get some exercise

Choose somewhere in the house where you can concentrate on your work and where there is a table to work on.

Decide which activity to do. Everyone can try all the activities at their own level.

This can be done on paper or in your homework book.

Talk to an adult about what you have done.

Bring it in to school to share with your teacher.Perhaps you could read your story to the class.

Spend some time reading! This is a great opportunity to curl up on a cold day with a good book.

Tell an adult about your favourite character in the story.

Draw a picture of one of the settings in the book (the place where it happens).

FS and KS1 : Get a grown up to read a story to you then talk to them about the characters and settings.

Snow poem

Go outside and have a look at the snow!Collect a list of words to do with snow.

Think about how it looks, feels, smells, sounds and tastes. Go into the garden and get a cupful of it.

Now think of words to describe your road in the snow.

Draw a snow picture which shows your words and add your words to the picture

and /or

Write a poem about your road in the snow using your word list

Write about an imaginery ‘Snow Day’

How did you feel when you found out school was closed. What did your mum or dad say?

Now imagine you and your family go out to enjoy the snow.

Where do you go?

Describe the snow – how it looks, feels snd sounds when you walk on it.

Then . . . something strange happens . . . . . what?

Maybe you see a strange creature in the snow, or meet someone very unusual. Perhaps the snow has a magical quality . . . .

KS1 children might do a shorter story or a story board.

FS stage children might draw a picture of an exciting day in the snow and add some key words.

Choose a number. KS1 might choose 10 or 20, year 3 and 4 might choose 50 or 100 and year 5 and 6 might choose 156 or 34.5.

How many calculations can you find that make this number?

  • Think carefully about how you record your work so someone else can understand it.
  • Use all 4 rules and try to use fractions, or decimals if you know how.
  • Be systematic and look for patterns and rules.

FS children - get a big pile of buttons or counters or lego bricks and count them. Tell a grown up how many there are and try to write the number. (Start with small piles then try bigger ones.)
